A Walk Along the Viking Way.

Having had an excellent morning with the birding lens at 'The Yard', later in the afternoon it was time to take Jet for a walk.  We opted for a drive into the Lincolnshire Wolds to the picturesque village of Walesby.  Once parked up we set off along the Viking Way towards the nearby village of Tealby.  Our path took us up the hill out of the village, on an initially muddy track, to the old village church of All Saints, now known as the Ramblers Church.  It stands on top of the scarp slope of the Wolds with magnificent views to the west.  Inside the church is a delightful 1951 stained glass window depicting walkers and cyclists.  Opportunely the sun appeared from behind the clouds as we walked across the field behind the church, giving wonderful light for photography.  We continued along the, occasionally, very muddy path, past the abandoned hamlet of Risby and the farm of Risby Manor up to the quaintly named Bedlam Plantation.  Immediately beyond the wood is the sadly empty and semi-derelict castle farm with excellent views beyond Market Rasen to Lincoln Cathedral silhouetted on the distant horizon by the sunset.  As we were running out of daylight at this juncture, we returned to Risby and dropped down to the road along which we made our way back to the car.
