Scotland 2015. Day 10, Tarbat Ness

It rained all night last night and we woke to rain this morning.  Although the showers passed over very quickly to leave bright clear spells with wonderful light we decided to leave the mountains for a day at the coast: Tarbat Ness, a narrow peninsular that juts out into the Moray and Dornoch Firths.  As we left the mountains the temperature was a mere 4 degrees centigrade but this rapidly climbed to 14 degrees as we neared the coast.  The weather improved and the light was excellent.  Tarbat Ness was a fabulous spot with red sandstone cliffs, fabulous displays of gorse with its heady coconut aroma and a statuesque red and white striped lighthouse.  We enjoyed pottering on the small rocky beach and walked up to the lighthouse.  I was delighted to find a family group of stonechats in the gorse and managed photographs of male, female and fledglings.  Raptors seen included buzzard, kestrel and red kite.
An excellent day concluded with good food, good company, good wine and a fine malt!
