Scotland 2015. Day 9, Glen Affric

A cold showery day today interspersed with bright sunny intervals and fabulous views.  Heather and I drove down Glen Affric to the end car park where we coincided with a clear spell and the views up Glen Affric were stunning.  After eating our lunch here, we went for a walk up to Affric Lodge and back.  Butterwort leaves glistened green by the side of the path along with the red rosettes of sundew.  Primroses and violets were plentiful and wiillow warblers and chiffchaff were in evidence.  By far the most noticeable birds in the glen, however, were mistle thrushes which were present in large numbers.  As we drove back down the glen it again rained and once more we were impressed by the vibrant saturated colours of the chestnut bracken, fresh, bright green birch leaves and green and ochre mosses.  We even found a bright orange cup lichen growing on the side of a silver birch.  Following this we drove down the valley to Beauly for tea and stickies and craft shops.  This evening we enjoyed a communal meal in Peter and Linda's static van and now it's time for a malt and bed.
