We woke this
morning much refreshed after a cosy night on our luxury airbeds. I was delighted when Heather announced that
she wasn’t going to spend another night on a camping mat. She was prepared for an argument which she
didn’t get!! You would have thought that
after 50 years and more of camping we would know better!!! After a lazy get up I popped into the village
for bread and croissant, resisting the delicious looking strawberry tarts
–maybe tomorrow. An even lazier breakfast,
morning and lunch ensued before we set off to nearby St Bonnet de Rochefort for
the Les Gorges de Rouzat walk. We had
dramatic views of two railway viaducts designed by Gustav Eifel 20 years before
the construction of his more famous tower.
We walked through beautiful woodlands smelling damp and green, meadows and alongside the Sioule where the
water chuckled and produced occasional deep-throated gurgles.. The flora was fabulous (over 30 different
species) and we heard nightingale and saw a woodchat shrike as well as buzzard
and short toed eagle carrying a snake in its talons. There were numerous wall browns and a couple
of swallowtails, both of which refused to settle in attractive spots for
photography, although I did manage shots on the ground. On our return to the site it was quite late
so a simple salad was the order of the day, after, of course, a glass of the
gold and frothy!!!

Another set of memories awakened in your viewers' / readers' minds - very reminiscent of Riberac Market (if you've ever been). It all looks very charming, and presumably warm rather than hot? Keep up the good work. We have also had skirmishes with camping mats, and can only think of the briefly popular futon as being any less comfortable!
